Volunteer

The Museum of the Fur Trade considers your time a valuable donation. Since much of the museum staff is comprised of volunteers, we continually offer opportunities for you to volunteer and give back to your community, while enjoying the many perks of your participation.

Your Contribution

Many different volunteer positions are available, from helping to set up events during the Fur Trade Days to tending our Heirloom Garden. This allows you to choose an opportunity to support our museum in the ways that are best suited to your interests and abilities.

The Perks

There are many advantages to volunteering at the Museum of the Fur Trade. In addition to meeting interesting people and expanding upon your knowledge of early American history, you can also enjoy the following benefits:

  • 20% discount in the Museum of the Fur Trade Shop.
  • Work recognized in the annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner.
  • Chance to be awarded the Distinguished Service or Volunteer of the Year Awards. Our Distinguished Service Award, which was established in 1974, has awarded 50 individuals to date for their outstanding assistance to the museum’s programs. Their contributions have ranged from helping to construct the building to working in our Museum Shop. Starting in 2000, we also began awarding a Volunteer of the Year Award to honor individuals. Past honoree Craig Nobling continues to bring his Chadron High School classes to do the spring and fall grounds clean-up at the museum.
